Hurricane Katrina Soaks Up Non-Profit Funds

Hurricane Katrina looks to surpass the all time record for personal contributions to the victims of a natural disaster. In fact it may soon surpass the donations of New York City International Terrorist Attack of 9-11. It is wonderful to see the pouring out of support from fellow citizens to those victims of Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast.

Unfortunately these expenditures at a time when money is tight on families due to the high fuel prices they are paying at the pumps, this means other very noble causes may not get the funds they need to survive. Additionally many non-profits have had a tough time even before Hurricane Katrina. Community organizations, school groups and churches may also feel the pinch. No one want to not give to Hurricane Katrina's victims, as many have lost literally everything and their life, job and home are nothing more than a pile of rubble.

It will take innovative ways for smaller non-profit groups to over come this short fall in donations to their many great causes. Remember everyone it is very important to think Globally and act locally. It is good to give to the disaster relief effort, there is no nobler cause this summer, but let's not forget our local community non-profit groups who need us too. If you cannot give locally and send money to the Red Cross or other legitimate causes perhaps you might donate some time, to a local community endeavor. Maybe a weekend or maybe two;, that would be wise and good for you too. Think on this.
